UCT is looking for the right candidate to be a Lead in our Horizontal Machining Department at our South San Francisco, CA facility. It will require a special focus on our new Makino a61nx Horizontal Machining Centers, with 44 Pallet Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS). Creating and or specifying work holding, tooling, configuring and maintaining the tool matrix will be a priority. Extensive experience is required with Mastercam, Solid Works and G-Code programming. Ability to setup, troubleshoot and prove out programs on horizontal machining centers is a must. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to collaborate between engineering and manufacturing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Generate CNC Programs from the CAD/CAM software
  • Generate accurate CAD/CAM drawings of parts using supplied print or sketch
  • Setup and prove out CNC programs and Horizontal and/or Vertical Machining Centers
  • Escalate functional and process failures to the appropriate support groups and leaders
  • Develop and follow non-verbal communication (i.e. visual management: workplace organization, setup documentation and pictures)
  • Assist in process design and tooling improvements
  • Troubleshoot programs and provide feedback to Lead CNC Programmer. Program parts with CNC team as needed
  • Help test and evaluate new processes and make suggestions to further streamline our manufacturing processes
  • Confer with engineers, machinists, programmers, or other relevant teams to resolve machining or maintenance problems
  • Keep machinery and work area clean and organized (i.e. housekeeping/6S practices)
  • Provide training to other team members
  • Follow all UCT Safety policies and procedures

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to read blueprints and understanding drawing features

Educational/Certification Requirement:

  • AA degree plus 5 years machining experience with 2 years as a Lead OR a high school diploma or equivalent and 7-10 years machining experience.

Experience Requirement:

Work Experience:

  • Experience with and knowledge of FMS Pallet System required
  • 5+ years of multi-axis programming
  • Experience with Mastercam/Solidworks/G-Code Programming

  • Overnight Travel:

    • Work may require out of town travel depending upon assignment (training and meeting).
