UCT history

HISTORY

Ultra Clean Technology was founded in 1991 by Hisayoshi Kobayashi, a senior manager in Mitsubishi Corporation's metals division. He presented a business case to Mitsubishi to bring advanced, ultra clean manufacturing techniques that were developed in Japan to the Silicon Valley. The company began manufacturing product in 1992, and in 1995 achieved ISO 9001 certification.

On November 18, 2002, UCT management completed an acquisition agreement with Francisco Partners, the world’s largest technology focused buyout firm. Ultra Clean Holdings, Inc., the parent company of Ultra Clean Technology Systems and Service, Inc., announced its initial public offering of common stock on March 24, 2004. The stock trades on NASDAQ under the symbol UCTT.

The company announced on June 29, 2006 that it had acquired Sieger Engineering, Inc. (Sieger). Sieger is a supplier of critical subsystems to the semiconductor and flat panel, as well as medical, capital equipment industries. Like Ultra Clean Technology, Sieger experienced growth at a faster pace than the overall industry because of its flexible business model, which is well suited to meet customers' needs for outsourced manufacturing.

As an example of their expanded capability, UCT provides Sunnyvale, CA-based Intuitive Surgical with critical components for advanced surgical robots. These unique assemblies are high precision, complex electromechanical modules that are used in the innovative da Vinci® Surgical System. Intuitive Surgical, Inc. is the global technology leader in robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery.

SUCCESS

Ultra Clean Technology succeeds in meeting customers' requirements through a combination of careful product analysis, specialized design services and high precision manufacturing. The exceptionally skilled technical and engineering staff leads the industry in the design of complex sub-assemblies, critical modules and gas & liquid delivery systems. UCT provides an increasingly wide variety of services, ranging from redesigning and upgrading existing systems to the creation of completely new designs — all designed and built to meet customers' unique process specifications. UCT forges a strong, relationship with their customers beginning with the design of every project. UCT design teams are highly integrated with the customer design team, and in many cases UCT staff are physically located at the OEM site. To ensure the final result meets or exceeds end-user process specifications, the customer is involved at every stage of the design process.

From start to finish, the specific needs of the customer are UCT's first priority. After manufacturing and exhaustive testing has been completed, a comprehensive technical document is provided to support all functionality requirements and system operation. This documentation is included with every product shipped. Ultra Clean Technology is committed to understanding their customers’ unique process requirements and to building superior gas and liquid delivery systems, process chambers, frame assemblies, critical modules, high precision machined components and other specialized products.
